The Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) has launched a $4.9 million grant program to help public school districts adopt electric school buses in 2026. The program provides funding for both vehicle purchases and charging infrastructure.
The 2026 Electric School Bus Grant Program offers grants covering up to 120% of the incremental cost of eligible buses.

Funds can also be used for installation of charging equipment and related expenses. Applications are open until Dec. 16, 2025, with eligibility and application details available on the MEA’s program webpage.
The initiative follows a $12 million program in 2025 that supported the introduction of electric school buses and infrastructure across seven school districts.
The grant program complements the MEA’s broader clean energy efforts, including the $36 million Decarbonizing Public Schools Program, which supports energy efficiency measures and clean energy systems in Maryland schools.
