MAN has delivered the first ten of its eTGX Ultra electric long-distance trucks to logistics company DB Schenker as part of a planned fleet expansion. These trucks, specifically developed for high load volumes, are designed to accommodate mega trailers with an interior height of three meters, a feature essential in industries like automotive and logistics with high space requirements. The vehicles are set to be used for a variety of transport tasks, including scheduled services and deliveries to key sectors.

The handover took place at MAN’s Munich plant this week, with DB Schenker taking delivery of the first ten vehicles, which feature the company’s signature white and green color scheme. This marks the beginning of a broader initiative outlined in a letter of intent from 2023, where DB Schenker committed to adding 100 MAN eTrucks to its fleet by 2026. “We are delighted to be the first customer to have the opportunity to put a fleet of 10 MAN eTGXs into operation,” said Cyrille Bonjean, Executive Vice President Land Transport at DB Schenker in Europe.

These MAN eTGX trucks are equipped with a modular battery system that allows for customization with four, five, or six battery packs and power levels ranging from 330 kW to 400 kW. The trucks are expected to offer a range of up to 500 kilometers, depending on the configuration. Additionally, the eTGX Ultra features a short wheelbase of 3.75 meters, a fifth wheel height of 950 mm, and the ability to charge at up to 375 kW with an optional MCS connection supporting up to one megawatt of charging capacity.

Friedrich Baumann, Chief Sales & Customer Solutions Officer at MAN Truck & Bus, highlighted the truck’s unique capabilities, noting, “No other series-produced electric semitrailer tractor on the market offers such a short wheelbase with maximum battery capacity for trailers with an interior height of three meters.”

The first ten eTGX trucks will be deployed by TIP Group, a leading manufacturer-independent commercial vehicle rental company, to support DB Schenker’s operations. As part of the agreement, DB Schenker and MAN also signed a further letter of intent for the delivery of 50 additional eTGL trucks, an all-electric 12-tonne vehicle for urban freight transport. “The eTGL is ideal for use on the last mile,” said Marc Pühler, Senior Vice President System Operations at DB Schenker. “We are proud to have been able to contribute our expertise to the development and look forward to the first series vehicle.”

This expansion of DB Schenker’s electric fleet demonstrates a growing commitment to sustainable transport solutions and aligns with broader industry goals for reducing carbon emissions and improving logistics efficiency.
