Magna is set to expand its operations in Ontario with a $470 million investment. The expansion includes a new battery enclosures facility in Brampton to support the Ford F-150 Lightning and other OEM programs, as well as the expansion of existing locations in Guelph, Belleville, Newmarket, Windsor, and Penetanguishene.
Magna’s investment is expected to create over 1,000 new jobs in Ontario over the next few years. The Ontario government has provided Magna with $23.6 million in grants to support these expansions and ongoing training and development programs for employees.
The new battery enclosures facility in Brampton will cover 490,000 square feet and is set to begin operations in Q2 2023, with 560 new jobs expected at full production. Magna will also add e-coat, molding, and welding capacity to its exteriors plant in Guelph to support new electric vehicle production, creating approximately 175 new jobs.

Magna’s lighting plant in Belleville is expanding its capabilities for printed circuit board assemblies, which will provide up to 100 new jobs. The mechatronics facility in Newmarket is also expecting approximately 75 new jobs, while the mechatronics plant in Windsor is adding new business for powered aluminum tonneau covers and plans to add roughly 110 new jobs. Magna’s mechatronics facility in Penetanguishene is growing its tailgate hinges production and plans to add over 15 new jobs.
Premier Doug Ford has praised the investment by Magna, saying it is a “tremendous show of confidence in the growing strength and resilience of our province’s auto sector.” Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, added that the investment will create hundreds of new jobs across the province while strengthening Ontario’s end-to-end automotive supply chain.
