Magna Secures Contract to Supply High-Performance eDrive System for North American Vehicle Platform

Automotive supplier Magna has announced a significant order to supply a primary eDrive rear-wheel drive system for a prestigious vehicle platform of a North American original equipment manufacturer (OEM). The 800-volt system, capable of delivering up to 726 kW of power, underscores Magna’s commitment to advancing electrification solutions in the automotive industry.

While the specific car manufacturer remains undisclosed, Magna highlights its expansion in the electrification sector, indicating a growing customer base. This order signifies a milestone in Magna’s efforts to establish itself as a key player in the electric vehicle (EV) market, with partnerships extending across various automotive brands.

The cutting-edge eDrive system, known as the 800V eDS Duo, features dual electric motors, inverters, and gearboxes integrated into a single package, enabling exceptional power output and torque. This innovative design ensures optimal performance, reliability, and efficiency, setting new standards for electric propulsion technology.

Magna’s President of Powertrain, Diba Ilunga, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting customers in their transition to electrification. Production of the eDrive system is scheduled to commence at Magna’s facility in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, starting in 2025. This strategic move underscores Magna’s dedication to sustainable mobility and its role in shaping the future of emission-free transportation.
