Mack Trucks, a renowned trucking industry player and a part of the Volvo Group, has unveiled its maiden electric vehicle (EV) in the medium-duty segment, the MD Electric. This is Mack Trucks’ second EV launch, following the Mack LR Electric garbage truck in December 2021.

The MD Electric truck will be available in two models, Class 6 and Class 7, with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 25,995 pounds and 33,000 pounds, respectively. Additionally, both models will be exempt from the 12% Federal Excise Tax.

Mack Trucks has partnered with SEA Electric, a global electric commercial vehicle maker, for the development of the MD Electric. SEA Electric will supply Mack with its SEA-Drive power system, with the Class 6 and 7 models featuring the SEA-Drive 120 and 180 power systems. “Mack Trucks has signed a five-year agreement with global electric commercial vehicle maker SEA Electric, which will supply Mack with its SEA-Drive power system. The Class 6 and 7 models will be equipped with the SEA-Drive 120 and 180 power systems,” said Tony Fairweather, SEA Electric CEO, and founder.
