Lucid has introduced a new AI assistant, Lucid Assistant, which offers a hands-free voice experience powered by SoundHound’s Chat AI platform. This development allows Lucid EV owners to interact with their vehicles in innovative ways, similar to how Amazon Alexa or Apple Siri function.
The Lucid Assistant can be activated by simply saying, “Hey, Lucid,” enabling drivers to access a range of information, such as sports scores, stock updates, weather forecasts, and more. In addition, the assistant allows users to control vehicle features, including navigation. A standout feature is its ability to answer questions about the vehicle’s functionality by referencing the full vehicle manual, and many features can be used without a cellular connection.
Dr. Jean-Philippe Gauthier, Lucid’s Head of Software Engineering, shared that the collaboration with SoundHound goes beyond traditional voice control. “Developing Lucid Assistant in cooperation with SoundHound enables us to deliver much more than a voice control feature,” Gauthier said. He also noted that with over-the-air updates, the assistant can evolve, adding new capabilities over time.
Michael Zagorsek, COO of SoundHound AI, emphasized the long-term impact of the technology, stating, “We believe that SoundHound’s best-in-class voice technology opens up unlimited new opportunities for both drivers and OEMs, and will fundamentally change the way we interact with our vehicles into the future.” The platform also aims to mitigate common issues with AI responses by using a proprietary method to ensure accurate and relevant answers.
Lucid continues to make strides in the electric vehicle market, having achieved its third consecutive quarter of record EV deliveries in Q3. The company recently launched its first electric SUV, the Gravity, and is set to report its Q4 and 2024 delivery numbers soon. Lucid also continues its strategic partnerships, having recently secured a deal with Aston Martin for advanced EV powertrain technology.
