Lucid Group has issued a recall for 225 Air Pure Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) sedans in the United States due to a defect that could cause a sudden loss of drive power. The issue involves improperly secured half-shaft bolts that may allow the driveshaft to detach from the electric drive unit, according to a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall covers model years 2024 through 2026 produced between September 23, 2023, and July 23, 2025. Lucid said the defect originated from an interruption in torque application during the adhesive curing process for the bolts, which may leave them insufficiently fastened. A detachment could lead to a total loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a crash.

The recall affects only the single-motor Air Pure RWD variant. Other dual-motor all-wheel-drive Air models, including the Touring and Grand Touring, are not affected as they retain partial propulsion even if one driveshaft fails.

Lucid will begin notifying owners by December 5, 2025. Authorized technicians will inspect and replace the half-shaft bolts at no cost using components built to updated manufacturing standards.

The automaker began investigating field reports of half-shaft detachment in 2024, initially believing the issue was isolated. However, a review in July 2025 by Lucid’s Product Safety Working Group found the defect to be more widespread. Engineers later developed a detection algorithm to identify vehicles at risk before implementing a new “clean point” in production on July 25, 2025.

This is the second recall within a year involving the Lucid Air Pure RWD over potential drive power loss. In late 2024, Lucid recalled more than 1,500 Air Pure sedans in the US and Canada due to a wiring harness defect that could also lead to unexpected power loss.
