Lucid Motors has made a significant stride in its vehicle design capabilities by acquiring Samsung’s colossal 255-inch monitor, aptly named “The Wall.” This monumental screen harnesses MicroLED technology to present vehicles in true-to-life colors, enabling designers to scrutinize every detail with unprecedented clarity and precision.
Jenny Ha, Lucid’s exterior design manager, expressed how “The Wall” has transformed the collaborative efforts of their design and engineering teams. She emphasized that this technology has ushered in a new era, allowing them to effortlessly visualize design data while incorporating crucial engineering feedback and simulation results. This capability expedites the assessment of design alterations on the overall vehicle aesthetic.
Lucid Motors put “The Wall” to use during the creation of the Air Sapphire, a high-performance electric super sedan boasting an impressive 1,200 horsepower. This vehicle, capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in under two seconds, underwent meticulous design scrutiny with the assistance of the massive display. The design team could scrutinize every aspect, from initial concept sketches to final adjustments.
Despite its colossal size, “The Wall” ingeniously minimizes its footprint, functioning as a two-dimensional tool that occupies minimal floor space. This feature facilitates more extensive team collaboration, allowing for the refinement of every vehicle detail in workshops. The result is not only better and faster design outcomes but also cost-effective development processes.
Ha affirmed that this innovative tool has enabled development teams to operate more efficiently while ensuring enhanced luxury aesthetics without compromising vehicle performance. Striking the delicate balance between aesthetics and performance has never been easier, thanks to “The Wall,” which seamlessly assists Lucid Motors in achieving this goal.
