Lucid Motors, the US-based electric car manufacturer, has appointed a new European head and is expanding its global reach with the opening of its first retail studio in Norway. Michael van der Sande, a seasoned veteran of the automotive industry with experience at Jaguar Land Rover and Tesla, has been appointed Managing Director for Europe and will be based in Amsterdam.

Meanwhile, the company’s fourth European retail outlet, located in Oslo, underpins its commitment to global expansion and will showcase the company’s Air electric luxury sedan.

Van der Sande’s appointment and the opening of the Oslo studio come after Lucid Motors posted a billion-dollar loss in its 2022 financial results. Despite this setback, the company remains focused on growth and is leaving “no stone unturned for every cost optimisation” in the coming year.

Speaking about the Oslo studio opening, van der Sande said: “We are delighted to open this brand-new studio in Oslo, Norway, a country at the forefront of electric vehicle adoption and charging infrastructure.” This sentiment is echoed in Lucid’s mission to bring its cutting-edge electric cars to customers throughout Europe.

The company’s expansion into Norway and Europe comes at a time when electric vehicle adoption is on the rise, making it an opportune moment for Lucid Motors to expand its market reach. The company’s Air electric luxury sedan has already started deliveries in Europe, and with the opening of the Oslo studio and the appointment of a new European head, Lucid Motors is poised to capture a larger share of the European electric vehicle market.
