Lucid Motors’ new flagship electric SUV, the Gravity Dream Edition, demonstrated its performance capabilities in a recent drag race video, competing against several of the most powerful gas and electric SUVs on the market. The video, published by Hagerty, included rival vehicles from Rivian, Porsche, Audi, and Range Rover, as well as a high-performance plug-in hybrid from Porsche.
In the final round of the drag race, the Lucid Gravity Dream Edition finished neck-and-neck with the 2026 Rivian R1S Quad Motor and Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. All three completed the quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds. Although the Gravity showed a slower launch off the line, it posted the highest trap speed at 139 mph, indicating strong mid- to high-speed acceleration.
The Gravity used in the test featured Lucid’s Dream Edition configuration, delivering 1,070 horsepower—surpassing all competitors on the track. Only the Rivian R1S Quad Motor came close, rated at 1,025 hp. By comparison, the other vehicles in the test, such as the Porsche Macan Turbo Electric and Audi RS Q8 Performance, were significantly less powerful, with 630 hp and 631 hp respectively.
Despite its 6,045-pound curb weight, the Gravity matched the best performers in acceleration. Lucid is expected to offer even faster versions of the SUV, potentially using the same 1,234-horsepower tri-motor setup found in the Air Sapphire sedan. If implemented, this could enable future Gravity variants to outperform Tesla’s Model X Plaid in straight-line speed.
Lucid plans to introduce more versions of the Gravity in the coming months. A Touring variant priced at $79,900 is scheduled for late 2025, with a potential Pure base model expected to follow. The company also aims to expand its EV portfolio further with a smaller SUV to compete with Tesla’s Model Y.
