Lion Smart, a subsidiary of Lion E-Mobility, has partnered with Hofer Powertrain to accelerate the development and commercialization of immersion-cooled battery systems, the companies announced on Thursday.

The collaboration aims to leverage Hofer’s expertise in battery system validation and rapid implementation, alongside Lion Smart’s advanced immersion-cooled battery technology and modular platform solutions. The companies plan to scale the technology from prototype to series production, targeting high market potential for their battery systems.

“With Hofer Powertrain, we have a strong partner by our side that perfectly complements our innovative strength,” said Joachim Damasky, CEO of Lion E-Mobility. “Together, we are accelerating the market entry of our highly innovative high-performance batteries and delivering pioneering solutions for sustainable mobility.”

While no specific timeline or technical details were disclosed, Lion Smart has previously tested a 400-volt immersion-cooled battery, which demonstrated strong performance in trials last year. In July 2024, a German premium automaker conducted track tests using the company’s ‘Lion Light’ battery prototype, reporting promising results.

Hofer Powertrain, a specialist in electric drivetrain development, operates 16 locations globally, including in Germany, China, and the United States. “The partnership with Lion Smart opens up new possibilities to transfer cutting-edge battery solutions into industrial applications,” said Johann Paul Hofer, CEO of Hofer Powertrain.
