Li Auto’s latest electric vehicle (EV) model, the Li L6, has garnered over 10,000 orders within its first 72 hours of availability, according to the company’s recent announcement on social media. However, despite this strong start, initial acceptance for the Li L6 is lower compared to its flagship SUV, the Li L9, which achieved over 30,000 orders within the same timeframe when it was launched about two years ago.

The Li L6, which is the company’s least expensive model to date, was launched on April 18 with two trims, Pro and Max, priced at RMB 249,800 and RMB 279,800, respectively. This pricing makes it more accessible than Li Auto’s previous cheapest model, the Li L7, which had a starting price of RMB 319,800.

Customers can secure an order for the Li L6 by paying a refundable deposit of RMB 5,000 within seven days, marking an extension of the customer hesitation period compared to the previous 24-hour window. This move aligns with a recent trend in the industry, as Xiaomi, another tech giant turned automaker, also offers a seven-day hesitation period for its first EV model, the SU7.

To incentivize early orders, Li Auto is providing limited-time entitlements totaling RMB 20,000 for customers who order the Li L6 between April 18 and May 5. These benefits include RMB 5,000 in discounts, RMB 10,000 worth of option funds, and RMB 5,000 worth of 7-kW AC charging piles and installation services.

Despite the lower initial acceptance compared to the Li L9, Li Auto remains optimistic about the Li L6’s prospects. The company is set to begin small-volume deliveries of the Li L6 this week, with plans to deliver approximately 2,000 units in April. High-volume deliveries are expected to commence in May, indicating strong demand for the new electric model.
