Speculation abounds in automotive circles as Lexus, the luxury division of Toyota Motor Corporation, appears to be laying the groundwork for a high-performance iteration of its electric SUV, the Lexus RZ. Recent trademark filings in Europe and Australia for the names ‘Lexus RZ F’ and ‘RZ F’ have ignited rumors of an imminent debut of a performance-focused model.

While official details remain elusive, industry observers are dissecting the clues offered by these patent filings. The move signals Lexus’ potential ambition to compete head-on with formidable rivals in the electric vehicle (EV) space, including the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and the Kia EV6 GT, known for their impressive power outputs and dynamic performance.

Currently, the flagship RZ450e boasts a 71.4 kWh battery pack and dual electric motors, delivering a combined output of 308 horsepower (230 kW). However, to establish itself as a credible contender in the high-performance EV segment, a speculated RZ F model would likely need a significant power upgrade. This could entail the adoption of more potent electric motors and a larger battery pack to enhance both performance metrics and driving range.

Industry pundits point to a potential design evolution for the RZ F, drawing inspiration from the RZ450e F Sport Performance variant unveiled at the prestigious Tokyo Auto Salon. Characterized by its bold exterior enhancements, including flared wheel arches, a dynamic front fascia, and twin rear spoilers, the RZ450e F Sport Performance signifies Lexus’ willingness to explore a more aggressive design language.
