Lexus Explores Electric RZ Line-up Expansion, Files Trademarks for RZ350e, RZ500e, and RZ550e Models

Luxury automaker Lexus is reportedly considering an expansion of its electric RZ line, as indicated by recent trademark filings for the names RZ350e, RZ500e, and RZ550e. The initial RZ offering, the RZ450e, featured a 71.4 kWh battery pack powering a 107 hp (80 kW) motor at the front axle and a 201 hp (150 kW) motor at the rear, resulting in a combined output of 308 hp (230 kW).

Recently, Lexus introduced the entry-level RZ300e in Japan, maintaining the same 71.4 kWh battery pack but with a power cap at 201 hp and 196 lb-ft (266 Nm). The specifics of the newly trademarked RZ350e, RZ500e, and RZ550e models are not officially disclosed.

However, it is speculated that the RZ350e might resemble the RZ300e with a slightly more potent electric motor for enhanced performance. The RZ500e and RZ550e are anticipated to serve as flagship models, possibly featuring 201 hp (150 kW) motors at both front and rear axles, yielding a combined output of 402 hp (300 kW).

Lexus has previously explored the concept of a 402 hp RZ with the unveiling of the RZ Sport Concept earlier this year, indicating an ongoing consideration to enhance the SUV’s performance. There is potential for the RZ500e and RZ550e to employ larger battery packs than the existing RZ300e and RZ450e models.

Considering the evolving landscape of electric vehicles, Lexus may also explore higher power outputs to compete with industry counterparts, such as the Ford Mustang Mach-E delivering 480 hp. Specific details about the powertrain and battery specifications for the new RZ models, however, remain undisclosed.
