LEVC Subsidiary, Geely’s Xspace MPV L380, Seeks Chinese Approval for Upcoming Electric Van

London Electric Vehicle Company’s (LEVC) Chinese subsidiary, Geely, has recently submitted an application for regulatory approval in China for its latest electric vehicle model, the Xspace MPV L380. This vehicle, based on the Space Oriented Architecture (SOA) platform, is anticipated to cater to the Chinese market, although its potential European release remains uncertain.

Officially designated as the Xspace MPV L380, the electric van boasts a length of approximately 5.30 meters and offers seating configurations for six or eight passengers. LEVC emphasizes the model’s spaciousness, likening it to the interior of an Airbus A380. The vehicle is equipped with a 200 kW motor from Viridi E-Mobility Technology (VREMT) and features a battery from CATL, with the capacity details yet to be disclosed.

With an unladen weight of 2.8 tonnes and a wheelbase of 3.19 meters, the L380 distinguishes itself by offering four rows of seats with two seats each, deviating from the conventional layout seen in other eight-seater vans. The manufacturing of the BEV van is slated to take place at the Zhejiang plant, known for producing the LEVC TX taxi, a range extender model incorporating a combustion engine as a generator.

The SOA platform, introduced in May, is a modified iteration of Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), optimized for commercial vehicles. While the SEA finds application in various models, including the Smart #1 and Volvo EM90 vans, the LEVC L380 targets fleet customers, specifically in the transport services sector.

Details on the battery size and range of the L380 are currently unavailable. The SOA platform, with options for 73 kWh, 102 kWh, or 120 kWh battery variants, could potentially accommodate the L380’s mid-range specifications.

The launch timeline and market availability of LEVC’s new electric van remain undisclosed. As developments unfold, the industry awaits further updates on the Xspace MPV L380’s regulatory approvals and market introductions.
