Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Leapmotor said its cumulative global deliveries have exceeded 1.5 million units, highlighting the company’s rapid growth as it expands both domestically and internationally.
The milestone comes just eight months after the automaker surpassed 1 million cumulative deliveries in October 2025, reflecting an accelerating pace of vehicle sales.
Delivery Growth Continues to Accelerate
Leapmotor delivered its first vehicle in June 2019.
According to the company, it took 64 months to reach 500,000 cumulative deliveries. The next 500,000 units were achieved in just 12 months, while the increase from 1 million to 1.5 million vehicles took only eight months.
The figures underscore the rapid growth of China’s electric vehicle market and Leapmotor’s expanding position within it.
Hong Kong Debut Marks Overseas Expansion
The company announced the milestone during the 2026 International Automotive Expo Hong Kong, where it unveiled the Lafa 5 electric hatchback for markets outside mainland China.
The event marked the first time Leapmotor displayed its full vehicle lineup in Hong Kong.
In addition to the Lafa 5, the company showcased special-edition versions of the A10 and D99 models featuring themed exterior designs.
The launch signals Leapmotor’s intention to strengthen its presence in international markets as competition intensifies within China.
Overseas Markets Become Key Growth Driver
International sales are playing an increasingly important role in the company’s expansion strategy.
Leapmotor exported more than 20,000 vehicles in May and over 75,000 units during the first five months of 2026, according to company figures.
The automaker said it now operates in more than 40 countries and regions worldwide through a network of over 2,000 sales and service outlets.
Stellantis Joint Venture Reports Profit
Leapmotor’s international expansion is supported by Leapmotor International, its joint venture with Stellantis.
Speaking at the Hong Kong event, Senior Vice President Cao Li said the joint venture has achieved annual profitability.
He also stated that the company has secured more than 30% of Italy’s battery-electric vehicle market, underscoring its growing presence in Europe.
Looking ahead, Leapmotor plans to establish a dual manufacturing structure with production hubs in Europe and Southeast Asia to support future global growth.
Profitability Remains a Challenge
Despite strong sales momentum, profitability remains under pressure.
Leapmotor reported first-quarter 2026 revenue of 10.82 billion yuan ($1.6 billion), an increase of 8% compared with the same period a year earlier.
However, gross margin declined to 9.4% from 14.9% in the first quarter of 2025, which the company attributed to changes in product mix and reduced contributions from strategic partnership businesses.
The automaker’s net loss widened to 390 million yuan during the quarter, compared with a loss of 130 million yuan a year earlier.
Company Targets One Million Deliveries in 2026
Leapmotor has set a goal of delivering one million vehicles during 2026, a target that would represent a significant increase from current volumes.
The company said ongoing model updates, international market expansion, and the planned growth of global manufacturing capacity will be key factors in achieving that objective.
As Chinese automakers continue to expand overseas, Leapmotor is increasingly positioning international markets as a central component of its long-term growth strategy.
