Leapmotor, a Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker, has announced a strategic partnership with German technology giant ZF Group to collaborate on developing a smart chassis for passenger cars. According to Leapmotor’s press release, the partnership aims to create intelligent and personalized smart chassis products that enhance the driving experience by providing greater comfort and safety for consumers.

ZF Group, in line with its localization strategy, intends to strengthen its presence in China’s electric vehicle (EV) market and foster the advancement of EVs towards the next generation of mobility. To achieve this, the German company plans to collaborate with more partners, including Leapmotor.

Furthermore, Leapmotor has expressed its intention to expand into the European market in the future. As part of this expansion, ZF Group will leverage its branding in Europe to assist Leapmotor in establishing a foothold overseas. However, specific details regarding Leapmotor’s entry into the European market were not provided in the press release.

Historically, Leapmotor has been known as a budget EV manufacturer, with its sales predominantly driven by the affordable EV T03 model. The T03 currently carries a price range of RMB 59,900 to RMB 89,900. However, the company’s flagship models, the C11 and the C01, were introduced to target the higher price bracket of RMB 150,000 to RMB 300,000.

In terms of recent sales performance, Leapmotor delivered 12,058 vehicles in May, indicating a 19.75 percent increase compared to the same month last year and a substantial 38.18 percent increase from April. These figures reflect the company’s growing presence and consumer demand for its vehicles.
