Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Leapmotor has introduced a self-funded rebate program for its electric cars in the UK, offering savings of up to £3,750 ahead of the rollout of a new government subsidy.
The initiative, launched on July 18, makes Leapmotor the first automaker to implement such a move ahead of the UK’s upcoming Electric Car Grant (ECG) scheme.
The offer applies to the brand’s only two models currently available in the UK market: the compact T03 hatchback and the C10 SUV. Under the new rebate scheme, dubbed the “Leap Grant,” buyers will receive a £1,500 discount on the T03 and up to £3,750 off the larger C10, which starts from £36,500 on-the-road.
The initiative comes in advance of the UK government’s ECG scheme, a £650 million program set to begin disbursing funds in the coming weeks.
Although applications opened on July 16, the ECG has yet to provide consumers with direct benefits. The program promises up to £3,750 off eligible EVs priced under £37,000, but delays in processing have prompted some manufacturers to act independently.
Leapmotor’s Managing Director in the UK, Damien Dally, said the company moved proactively to support customers during the transition to electric mobility. “Our mission is to help make the leap to electric cars easy for UK drivers,” Dally said. “We’ve decided to act now because we want to give customers clarity, confidence, and immediate savings – and make the switch to electric a simple choice.”
Leapmotor’s C10 is a D-segment electric SUV equipped with a 69.9 kWh battery and a 160 kW motor, offering a WLTP range of 263 miles.
The T03, priced from £15,995, is a compact city EV designed for affordability and urban commuting. A third model, the B10 SUV – featuring an 800-volt system and a range of up to 600 kilometres – is expected to enter the UK market soon.
