Kia has officially launched its newest affordable electric car, the EV3, in Korea, with orders now being accepted starting at $30,700 (KRW 42.08 million). This marks Kia’s third electric vehicle and the first of its next-generation affordable lineup, following its unveiling in October during the first annual EV Day.

The EV3 inherits design and technology updates from Kia’s flagship EV9 but is packaged into a smaller, more affordable vehicle. Kia emphasizes that the EV3 has its own unique identity, distinguishing it from others in its segment. Notable design changes include the “Tiger Face” grille, a departure from Kia’s traditional “Tiger Nose” design.

Inside, the EV3 is packed with tech, featuring Kia’s next-gen Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) infotainment system, which includes dual 12.3″ screens with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. This model is seen as a significant catalyst for Kia’s transformation in the electric era.

Jeong Won-Jeong, VP of Kia’s domestic business headquarters, expressed confidence in the EV3, stating, “We expect customers who have been hesitant to purchase an electric vehicle to choose the EV3 without hesitation.”

Kia’s EV3 is priced competitively, with the standard model starting at $30,700 (KRW 42.08 million) before tax benefits. Other trim levels include the Earth at $33,400 (KRW 45.71 million) and the GT Line and Long Range models at $34,100 (KRW 46.66 million). Kia expects the standard model’s price to drop to $29,200 (KRW 39.95 million) after environmental-friendly vehicle notifications.

The EV3 is based on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform and features 4th-gen batteries. The Long Range model boasts a driving range of up to 311 miles (501 km), while the Standard model can drive up to 217 miles (350 km). Charging is efficient, with a 350 kW charger enabling the Standard model to charge from 10% to 80% in 29 minutes and the Long Range model in 31 minutes.

Kia also introduced its “e-Life Package,” a program that combines charging, vehicle care, and used-price vehicle guarantees to enhance the EV ownership experience. An exclusive preview event for the EV3, titled “EV3 Exclusive Preview,” is scheduled for June 15th to 16th to allow customers to experience the new electric car firsthand.

Looking ahead, Kia plans to launch the EV4, its entry-level electric sedan, expected to debut next year with starting prices around $35,000.
