Kia plans to stick to its ambitious goal of selling 1.6 million electric vehicles (EVs) annually by 2030, despite facing challenging market conditions and uncertainties due to government policies, according to Kevin Ahn, president and CEO of Kia Asia Pacific.

Speaking at an event in Taipei, Ahn acknowledged the rapidly changing market and the numerous uncertainties, emphasizing that while short-term fluctuations could affect sales volumes, the long-term target remains intact.

“Our long-term target is for 2030, 1.6 million EVs,” Ahn said. “On the way there, there will be some chasms, there will be some difficulties, some volumes going down because of the market conditions and government policies.”

Ahn did not provide specific comments on the potential impact of the European Union’s new import tariffs on Chinese-made EVs or on broader market implications following the U.S. election.

However, he noted that Kia plans to continue expanding its production capacity, including assembling EVs in Georgia, USA, and manufacturing small EVs in Europe.
