Joby Aviation, a developer of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, has joined forces with executive aviation company Jetex to establish charging systems across the Middle East. The collaboration is designed to support Joby’s growing air taxi network, connecting passengers to a network of vertiports across the region and the Emirates.
As part of an agreement with Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority, Joby holds exclusive rights to operate air taxis in Dubai for six years. The initial charging installations will be located at Jetex terminals, facilitating sustainable urban air mobility and passenger convenience.
“Jetex’s exceptional operational standards and commitment to sustainability make them an ideal partner as we work to redefine urban air mobility,” said JoeBen Bevirt, founder and CEO of Joby Aviation. “With their strategically positioned terminals and focus on delivering unparalleled customer experiences, this collaboration is a significant milestone in advancing sustainable air travel in the region.”
Skyports, Joby’s infrastructure partner, has commenced construction of the first vertiport for Joby at Dubai International Airport, further strengthening the company’s operations in the UAE.
In addition to infrastructure development, Joby recently applied to become the UAE’s first certified air taxi operator, a step that aligns with its broader strategy to expand into global markets. The company also announced a public stock offering, aiming to raise $202 million to support its certification efforts, manufacturing expansion, and preparation for commercial operations.
The funding will enable Joby to advance its electric aerial vehicle (EAV) production and ensure readiness for full-scale operations in Dubai and other regions.
