Jeep has officially announced that its globally popular Compass model will soon be available in an electric version, marking a significant step in the brandās electrification strategy. The teaser design sketch for the upcoming Jeep Compass EV was unveiled recently, generating excitement among fans and potential buyers.
Currently, the Compass ranks as Jeep’s third best-selling vehicle in the United States, following the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler, and it remains a strong performer in its segment across Europe. Jeep’s UK managing director, Kris Cholmondeley, previously hinted at the development of an electric Compass, stating in August that it would initiate a brand revamp in Europe.
The next-generation Compass will offer a range of powertrain options, including fully electric, hybrid, and gasoline models, as part of Jeep’s “Freedom of Choice” strategy. Built on the STLA Medium platform, the Compass EV shares its architecture with the Peugeot E-3008. Stellantis claims the platform boasts a ābest-in-class range,ā with the Performance pack exceeding 435 miles (700 km) under the WLTP cycle, while the Standard pack is rated for over 310 miles (500 km).
In comparison, the Peugeot E-3008 with a standard 73 kWh battery can achieve up to 326 miles, and the larger 98 kWh battery variant offers a range of up to 422 miles.
Jeep’s design for the electric Compass will likely retain many traditional elements while incorporating new features, similar to its first global electric SUV, the Wagoneer S, which showcases an illuminated grille and a more aerodynamic profile.
Production of the next-gen Compass will commence in Melfi, Italy, starting next year, with plans to expand manufacturing to North America and other regions by 2026. Cholmondeley announced that Jeep is set to officially unveil the electric Compass next month, positioning it above the Avenger, the brand’s first EV in Europe.
Following the Compass, Jeep will introduce the Wrangler-inspired Recon EV, which was recently spotted in transit, hinting at an imminent launch. Additionally, plans are underway for an electric Renegade, anticipated to start at under $25,000. The launch of the Compass, alongside the Wagoneer S and Renegade, is expected to facilitate Jeep’s transition into new market segments as the brand evolves in the electrified vehicle landscape.
