Jeep recalls Wrangler 4xe hybrid over possible engine shutdown

Jeep is recalling 63,000 Jeep Wrangler 4xe SUVs made in 2020 through and 2022 because their engines suddenly failed. Jeep noted only the plug-in hybrid model was problematic.

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said that the Jeep Wrangler 4xe cars being recalled consisted of 62,909 Wrangler 4xe made September 2, 2020 to August 17, 2022.

Jeep explained that the hybrid SUV’s engine could suddenly die. This is due to a diagnostic reaction due to loss of communication which can cause an accident.

The US company noted that there were 196 warranty claims, 65 field reports, two accidents and one injury that were strongly suspected to be related to problems with the Jeep Wrangler 4xe hybrid car.

Jeep dealers will update the calibration software in the transmission control module, hybrid control processor and additional hybrid control processors.

Owners of cars affected by this issue will receive more details on the recall of the SUV from January 12, 2023.

Some customers who have already paid for repairs are entitled to a refund. Jeep also announced the termination of production and sales of the Wrangler 4xe SUV in the US in mid-December.
