Jeep, known for its rugged off-road vehicles, is set to ramp up its plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) offerings in the United States, targeting a significant increase in sales for 2024. CEO Antonio Filosa revealed to CNBC that the brand aims to sell between 160,000 to 170,000 PHEVs this year, a substantial jump from the 113,113 units sold in 2023.

The success of Jeep’s 4xe versions of the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee has paved the way for further expansion of their eco-friendly lineup. Filosa confirmed plans for a Gladiator 4xe to debut in 2025, following in the footsteps of the Wrangler and offering a similar powertrain setup.

The Gladiator 4xe is expected to feature a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, a 17.3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 375 hp (280 kW / 380 PS) and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque. It will also offer an electric-only range of 21 miles (34 km), enhancing its appeal to environmentally-conscious consumers.

In addition to the Gladiator 4xe, Jeep plans to introduce 4xe versions of the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer in 2025. These models will feature a range-extended powertrain similar to the Ram 1500 Ramcharger, including a 92 kWh battery pack, a 3.6-liter V6 generator, and a dual-motor all-wheel drive system. This setup will provide impressive performance figures, with 663 hp (494 kW / 672 PS) and 615 lb-ft (833 Nm) of torque, along with a range of up to 690 miles (1,110 km).
