Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is embarking on a recruitment drive to hire 250 engineers at its UK sites in Gaydon and Whitley. The move is aimed at supporting the development of its next-generation electric vehicles, with a particular focus on battery technology and various other drive development roles.
The recruitment includes 40 positions in battery technology, along with roles in advanced energy storage systems, battery cell design, cell stack assemblies, and hardware and software development for JLR’s “next generation vehicle architectures.” Other roles are available in propulsion, including propulsion software, calibration and controls, HV system integration, and electrical system component design.
Thomas Mueller, JLR Executive Director of Product Engineering, emphasized the importance of investing in people and technology for the realization of their Reimagine strategy. He stated, “As we continue to invest in our facilities, we are now seeking very talented people to help us develop advancements in propulsion technology that will underpin our next generation modern luxury vehicles.”
JLR’s Gaydon site houses an Engineering Centre, while the company’s ÂŁ250m Future Energy Lab in Whitley, Coventry, is dedicated to developing and testing batteries and Electric Drive Units.
Freddy Gunnarsson, JLR Cell Design Manager, highlighted the opportunity for battery chemistry experts to shape the next generation of electrical powertrains, stating, “We are ramping up our work, converting cutting-edge science into battery propulsion systems that offer our clients unique driving and charging experiences, expected of modern luxury vehicles.”
Recently, JLR announced plans to increase vehicle production in collaboration with parent company Tata in India. The company also received a UK grant for e-mobility projects. However, in February, JLR scaled back some of its EV production plans.
