Iveco Group and Foton have entered into a partnership agreement to explore various EV-related collaborations. The deal aims to tap into joint business opportunities and expand their offerings in the commercial vehicle sector.

Iveco Group, renowned for its commercial and specialty vehicles, is keen on enhancing its portfolio by introducing chassis cab and panel van pure electric models with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of 3.5 tonnes or lower. This expansion aligns with the company’s broader electrification strategy to cater to the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment.

Foton, a subsidiary of China’s BAIC Group, shares a similar commitment to eco-friendly technologies in the commercial vehicle space. The partnership with Iveco Group will focus on the development and commercialization of an electric panel van tailored for South American and European markets.

According to a spokesperson from Iveco Group, “The cooperation with Foton represents a significant step towards our goal of offering a comprehensive range of electric commercial vehicles. We believe that this collaboration will not only benefit our customers but also contribute to a greener future for the industry.”

This partnership is part of Iveco Group’s broader strategy to expand its presence in the under 3.5-tonne segment. Earlier this year, the company signed a supply agreement with Hyundai for an electric cab in the 2.5 to 3.5-tonne range, further strengthening its position in the EV market.

Foton, recognized as China’s top commercial vehicle exporter for 13 consecutive years, has a strong global presence, with products available in 130 countries. The company’s focus on new energy vehicles has enabled it to penetrate 45 export markets, showcasing its commitment to sustainable transportation solutions.
