Italian Volt, the renowned Italian electric motorcycle manufacturer, is gearing up to finally launch its long-awaited Lacama 2.0 electric motorcycle in 2023. The Lacama, which has been in development since 2016, promises to deliver a boutique, performance-oriented riding experience tailored to individual riders’ needs. After experiencing setbacks due to the global pandemic and a change in ownership, Italian Volt is now ready to bring its electrifying creation to market.
Originally showcased at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2018, Italian Volt’s Lacama generated considerable excitement, with pre-bookings available at $250 USD. However, with a hefty price tag of $38,000, the bike’s production plans faced delays and challenges. The company reemerged at EICMA 2021 and assured enthusiasts that the Lacama would hit the market in the first quarter of 2022, but those plans were ultimately delayed once again.
In 2022, Italian Volt underwent a change in ownership as Tazzari EV took over the reins and relocated the company’s headquarters to Imola. Now, with the management under Tazzari’s guidance, the Lacama 2.0 is slated for production in the third quarter of 2023.
The Lacama 2.0 retains the iconic Italian Volt branding while incorporating significant design updates. Powering this high-performance electric motorcycle is an axial flow electric motor, generating an impressive maximum torque output of 230 Newton-meters (161 pound-feet) and delivering 110 kilowatts (150 horsepower). The motor’s capabilities enable the Lacama 2.0 to achieve a top speed of 230 kilometers per hour (144 miles per hour), an improvement over its predecessor’s 200 kilometers per hour (125 miles per hour).
Enhancing the electric powertrain’s performance, the Lacama 2.0 now introduces a “Rocket” mode, enabling rapid acceleration from zero to 62 miles per hour in just 3.8 seconds. Its 400-volt battery pack, equipped with Samsung cells, offers an estimated riding range of up to 125 miles on a single charge. Riders can choose from Sport, Eco, and Rain modes, tailoring the power delivery to their preferences and prevailing road conditions.
The Lacama 2.0 features a lightweight and durable one-piece aluminum frame and swing arm, ensuring optimal agility and strength. Its suspension system comprises Ăhlins inverted front forks and a rear monoshock, both fully adjustable to deliver a comfortable and dynamic ride. Brembo supplies the braking system, with twin radially mounted discs at the front and a single disc at the rear.
Equipped with advanced electronics, the Lacama 2.0 boasts a vibrant 4.3-inch full-color TFT display with smartphone connectivity. This display allows riders to effortlessly switch between modes. Additionally, the bike incorporates a six-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU) that powers sophisticated lean-sensitive ABS and traction control systems.
What sets the Lacama 2.0 apart is its customizable bodywork. Each motorcycle will be tailored to the owner’s specifications, with an opportunity to provide design inputs before production. Utilizing 3D printing technology, Italian Volt will bring the owner’s envisioned bodywork to life, offering options such as scrambler, cafe-racer, or naked bike styles. With an extensive palette of 22 colors to choose from, riders can truly personalize their Lacama 2.0 to reflect their individuality.
Italian Volt’s Lacama 2.0 electric motorcycle represents a significant milestone in the evolution of high-performance electric two-wheelers. With its improved powertrain, cutting-edge electronics, and customizable design, this Italian masterpiece is poised to captivate motorcycle enthusiasts seeking an exhilarating and personalized riding experience.
