Spanish manufacturer Irizar has delivered ten battery-electric buses to Kaunas, Lithuania’s second-largest city, where they will soon enter service with local operator Kautra. The vehicles come from the latest generation of the company’s ie electric bus platform unveiled last autumn.
The delivery makes Kaunas the second city in Lithuania to deploy Irizar electric buses, following earlier adoption in Klaipėda. The new buses are XXL variants of the Irizar ie bus, recently reintroduced as the ie bus Efficient at Busworld Europe 2025.

Irizar’s electric bus series has been on the market since 2014 and has undergone multiple upgrades. The latest generation incorporates a more compact electric motor, improved battery efficiency, and weight reductions achieved through new materials. Depending on length, battery capacity reaches up to 510 kWh for the 10- and 12-metre models and up to 714 kWh for the 18-metre articulated version.
The manufacturer estimates a driving range of about 350 kilometres for all configurations. The centrally mounted synchronous motor delivers rated output of 185 kW in the smaller buses and 285 kW in the articulated model, supporting urban transit operations with high passenger capacity.
