Electric bicycles have been around for a while now, but the for-sport category is still relatively new. These e-bikes are designed to provide a perfect blend of man and machine, without compromising on performance. Typically, for-sport electric bicycles come with a 250-watt system, which strikes a perfect balance between weight and performance. But German e-bike specialist Rotwild is upping the ante with its latest offering, the R.X275.
The R.X275 is touted as the lightest full-suspension electric mountain bike in the market, weighing in at just 15.3 kilograms. And it’s not just a claim – the bike has been tested by Cory Benson from BikeRumor, who confirmed its weight. In fact, the R.X275 in size large weighs only 15.86 kilograms, which is lighter than many high-end non-electric mountain bikes.
Powering the R.X275 is the TQ HPR50 drive system, which is one of the lightest in the business, weighing in at just 1,850 grams. The system has a continuous output of 250 watts, but Rotwild has added a twist to it. The R.X275 employs Zirbel’s electronic grip shift, which has been repurposed into a thumb switch that gives the motor a quick, 30-second boost. In boost mode, power is increased to 300 watts, which allows riders to tackle steep climbs with ease.
The TQ HPR50 system also delivers 50 newton-meters of torque, which is more than enough for most off-road terrain. The system is mated to a torque sensor that ensures seamless pedal assist, which is directly proportional to the rider’s input.
Rotwild offers the R.X275 in two variants, both of which are extremely expensive. The more affordable option comes with a Shimano XT groupset and Fox Performance Elite suspension hardware, and rolls on DT XC 1700 LS eMTB wheels. It costs 9,500 Euros, which is approximately $10,275 USD. The R.X265 Ultra, on the other hand, comes with Fox Factory kit, a Transfer SL dropper, and Shimano XTR groupset, and costs 12,500 Euros, which is approximately $13,520 USD.
The Rotwild R.X275 is an impressive feat of engineering, combining lightweight design with high-performance components. While it may be expensive, it’s a testament to how far e-bike technology has come in recent years. Whether you’re a serious mountain biker or just looking for a fun way to explore the outdoors, the R.X275 is definitely worth considering.
