Ineos, the company behind the highly-regarded Grenadier off-roader, has announced details about their upcoming electric SUV. The second model from the company will be developed in partnership with Magna-Steyr and is expected to hit the market in 2026.
In an interview with Australia’s Drive, Mark Tennant, an executive at Ineos, revealed the company’s close collaboration with Magna-Steyr on a new electric SUV project. This vehicle, which is expected to have robust off-road capabilities, is expected to be introduced in 2026. According to Tennant, the exterior design is nearly finished with just a bit more work to be done on the interior.
The upcoming SUV will deviate from the ladder-frame chassis of the Grenadier and instead use a skateboard-style platform, which is popular among electric vehicles such as the Rivian R1T and the forthcoming Jeep Recon.
This platform will provide the electric SUV with better range and capability compared to a ladder-frame platform. The source of the skateboard platform is currently unknown, but Ineos may partner with Magna International or purchase from a supplier like Canoo.
Tennant hinted that the electric SUV will have better off-road credentials than the Grenadier and will offer a unique silent experience with its low center of gravity and excellent balance. Ineos will face competition in the electric off-road market with the Jeep Recon and Volkswagen’s relaunch of the Scout brand as a dedicated electric off-road brand.
Overall, Ineos has high expectations for the success of their upcoming electric SUV, building on the reputation of the Grenadier. The combination of silent off-roading and the potential for exceptional balance and rollover resistance makes this new addition to the market highly anticipated.
