IM Motors, the electric vehicle (EV) arm of SAIC Motor Corp, has unveiled its latest electric sedan, the IM L6, in a bid to challenge competitors like Tesla’s Model 3 and Xiaomi’s SU7.
The IM L6, the company’s fourth model and second sedan, was introduced at a launch event, with a starting price of RMB 219,900 ($30,400). However, a limited-time offer brings the starting price down to RMB 199,900.
Available in five variants, the IM L6 offers a range of features and specifications. It measures 4,931 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,474 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm. The model is available in configurations based on different voltage platforms, with the lowest priced variant built on a 400 V platform, and higher-tier variants on 800 V and quasi-900 V platforms.
IM Motors began pre-sales for the IM L6 in April, with orders exceeding 29,000 units. Deliveries are set to begin at the end of May, with the exception of the variant featuring semi-solid-state batteries, which will be available for order locking in September and deliveries starting in October.
The IM L6 offers impressive performance, with acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour ranging from 2.74 seconds to 5.6 seconds, depending on the variant. The model is equipped with various battery options, including lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and Li-ion ternary batteries, offering a CLTC range of 650 km to 850 km. The semi-solid-state battery version boasts a capacity of 133 kWh and a CLTC range of over 1,000 kilometers.
The semi-solid-state battery is a first-generation product developed by IM Motors in collaboration with SAIC-backed startup QingTao Energy Development. It supports ultra-fast charging, providing a range increase of 400 km in just 12 minutes of charging.
Founded in November 2020 by SAIC, Zhangjiang Hi-Tech, and Alibaba, IM Motors has focused on expanding its EV lineup.
