Iberdrola | bp pulse said it has partnered with supermarket chain Alimerka to install 238 ultra-fast electric vehicle chargers at 59 store car parks in northern Spain, expanding the joint venture’s charging network in the region.

The rollout will include 42 charging points in Asturias, 15 in Castilla y León, and two in Lugo, the companies said. The chargers, with capacities starting at 150 kW, will allow customers to add up to 100 kilometres of range in three minutes or fully charge during a typical shopping visit of up to 45 minutes, depending on vehicle specifications.

The initiative is part of Iberdrola | bp pulse’s broader expansion since the joint venture was launched in 2023. Together, the partners have installed 1,400 fast-charging points to date, including 400 in the first half of this year. When combined with Iberdrola’s individually operated units, the company manages 2,600 fast chargers and 9,600 public charging points in total.

“For Alimerka, this initiative is another sign of our commitment to sustainable mobility and to our customers,” said Paula Díaz-Caneja Gutiérrez, Head of Environmental Affairs at Alimerka. “This agreement will enable us to have many more charging points for electric vehicles at our supermarkets, offering a very practical service and improving their shopping experience.”

Pablo Pirles, Managing Director of Iberdrola | bp pulse, said: “Thanks to agreements like this, we can continue to make progress towards our goal of ensuring that the charging infrastructure is where it’s really needed. Making it easy for people to quickly charge their electric vehicles while they shop is a clear example of how decarbonising mobility offers simple, accessible solutions that are within everyone’s reach.”
