The automotive industry has seen a shift in how automakers are connecting with enthusiasts for the launch of new vehicles. Increasingly, the Goodwood Festival of Speed (FoS) is becoming a preferred choice over traditional auto shows. Following suit, Hyundai has announced that its first-ever showroom-bound electric performance car, the Ioniq 5 N, will make its global debut at this year’s FoS, taking place in the south of England from July 13 to July 16.
Hyundai has previously released teaser images and videos of the N EV but hasn’t provided a full technical breakdown. However, we do know that it shares many features with Kia’s EV6 GT, which boasts 576 hp and 545 lb-ft of torque and reaches 60mph in 3.4 seconds. Former Hyundai N chief, Albert Biermann, hinted that the Ioniq could have around 600 hp, a substantial increase from the entry-level Ioniq, which has 168 hp and takes 8.5 seconds to reach 62 mph.
The Ioniq 5 N’s debut is significant not only for Hyundai and its fans but also because it marks Hyundai’s first-ever all-wheel-drive N machine. The hot Ioniq features advanced all-wheel-drive hardware designed to make it both agile and easy to control. One of the many gadgets included is the N Drift Optimizer, which blends torque distribution between the front and rear axles, tweaks steering effort, suspension stiffness, and the electronic limited-slip differential on the rear axle. This technology makes even the biggest oversteer novice feel like a Japanese touge legend.
The Goodwood FoS is known for its iconic hill climb and its tradition of showcasing some of the best cars in the world. The Ioniq 5 N is a highly anticipated addition to this year’s festival and is sure to wow visitors with its advanced technology and performance capabilities. Hyundai’s decision to launch the Ioniq 5 N at Goodwood highlights the festival’s growing importance in the automotive industry and underscores the increasing shift towards non-traditional launch events.
