Hyundai  presented the Staria Camper Concept at the CMT trade fair in Stuttgart, as the South Korean automaker gauges European demand for premium, fully electric recreational vehicles.

The one-off concept follows the recent world premiere of the Staria Electric and is intended to showcase how Hyundai’s multi-purpose vehicle platform could be adapted into a camper tailored for the European market. If approved for production, the camper would be based on the fully electric Staria Electric, Hyundai said.

“This one-off model is designed to demonstrate how MPV could evolve into a premium recreational vehicle tailored to the European market,” Hyundai said, adding that “with demand for electric mobility and experiential travel accelerating across Europe, customers are increasingly seeking vehicles that combine everyday usability with the freedom to travel independently and comfortably.”

Hyundai said visitors to the CMT (Caravan, Motor and Tourism) trade fair would be able to provide direct feedback on the concept. “These insights will help assess interest in Staria as a camper vehicle and may inform the development of a potential production version of the concept,” the company said.

The Staria has been part of Hyundai’s lineup since 2021, offered to date with petrol and full-hybrid powertrains. A battery-electric version is due to be introduced in the first half of 2026 following a facelift, using in-house technology derived from Hyundai’s E-GMP platform. The electric variant is expected to feature an 84.0 kWh battery, a 160 kW powertrain and an 800-volt electrical system, with a provisional WLTP range of around 400 kilometres.

For the camper concept, Hyundai has fitted an electrically operated pop-up roof designed to maintain aerodynamic efficiency. “Engineered to preserve Staria aerodynamic efficiency, the pop-up roof also helps reduce wind noise and buffeting while driving,” Hyundai said. The roof integrates solar panels with a peak output of 520 watts, capable of generating up to 2.6 kWh of electricity in around five hours of sunlight.

Inside, the concept includes a compact kitchen setup, a 36-litre refrigerator, rotating front seats and a rear seating system that converts into a sleeping area for two people. Additional features include a small sink, an outdoor shower and an awning for extended outdoor use.

Hyundai did not confirm whether the show vehicle itself is fully electric. Press images of the concept show a prominent front grille with copper-coloured accents, contrasting with the closed front design used on the electric Staria unveiled earlier this week in Brussels, which integrates the charging port.
