Hyundai has officially introduced the IONIQ 9, its first three-row electric SUV, at the LA Auto Show, promising a bold step forward in electric vehicle (EV) design and technology. The IONIQ 9 boasts a futuristic look, spacious interior, and advanced tech features, making it a standout in the growing electric SUV market.

The IONIQ 9 is powered by a 110.3 kWh battery, offering an estimated EPA range of 335 miles (620 km) for the Long-Range RWD model. This model features a 160 kW rear motor, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 9.4 seconds. A Performance trim, equipped with an additional 160 kW front motor, reduces this time to just 5.2 seconds.

Hyundai’s new SUV adopts the brand’s Aerosthetic design language, with a sleek roofline and flush exterior, contributing to an open, “lounge-like” cabin that can comfortably seat seven passengers. The first and second-row seats are fully reclinable, with built-in leg rests. The vehicle’s dimensions—5,060 mm long, 1,980 mm wide, and 1,790 mm tall—make it slightly smaller than the Rivian R1S.

Inside, the IONIQ 9 is packed with advanced software, connectivity features, and a panoramic curved display that integrates dual 12-inch clusters and monitors. The SUV also features e-Active Sound Design, which simulates the sound of driving an EV through the vehicle’s audio system.

The IONIQ 9 supports Tesla’s Supercharger network with a native NACS port, allowing for fast charging from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes using a 350 kW charger. This capability adds to the vehicle’s convenience and long-distance travel suitability.

The IONIQ 9 will be available in the United States and Korea in the first half of 2025, followed by a wider global release. Hyundai plans to manufacture the U.S. model at its new plant in Georgia, alongside the updated 2025 IONIQ 5. Pricing details will be released closer to the vehicle’s launch.
