Hyundai has taken the lead in the electric vehicle (EV) market with its IONIQ 6 sedan, offering fast charging in under 20 minutes, over 350 miles of range, and an affordable starting price. According to a recent report, the IONIQ 6 is the only EV currently meeting these criteria, making it a strong contender in the increasingly competitive EV landscape.
Launched in South Korea in late 2022 and introduced in the US in March 2023, the IONIQ 6 is based on Hyundai’s E-GMP dedicated EV platform, which also underpins the IONIQ 5. With up to 361 miles of driving range and the ability to charge from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes using 800V DC fast charging, the IONIQ 6 offers a compelling combination of performance and convenience.
What sets the IONIQ 6 apart is its affordability, with a starting price as low as $38,650. This competitive pricing, combined with its long-range capabilities and fast-charging capabilities, makes the IONIQ 6 an attractive option for EV buyers.
A recent report from Boston Consulting Group (BCG) found that the IONIQ 6 is the only EV on the market that meets the median price, range, and charging requirements of potential buyers. With 70% of US consumers considering buying an EV, and 38% planning to purchase one as their next vehicle, the demand for affordable, long-range EVs is higher than ever.
Hyundai’s decision to launch the 2024 IONIQ 6 at a $4,100 discount compared to last year’s model further enhances its appeal. With a starting price of $38,615 and a $7,500 cash offer on all trims, the IONIQ 6 is priced competitively, making it accessible to a wider range of consumers.
While Tesla’s Model 3 comes close to meeting the criteria set by BCG, with a starting price of $38,990 and up to 341 miles of range for the Long Range model, the IONIQ 6 stands out as a strong competitor in the affordable, long-range EV segment.
