Hyundai Motor America has reported record-breaking sales figures for February 2023 in the United States. The automaker sold 57,044 vehicles, up almost 9% from the same period the previous year. This year, Hyundai has sold 109,045 units, a 9% increase from the previous year.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5, which recorded sales of 2,074 in February 2023, saw a 19% decrease compared to the same month last year. However, it was the model’s best performance since June 2022, without the inclusion of the $7,500 federal tax credit. The Ioniq 5 represented 3.6% of the total sales volume.

Although sales figures for the Hyundai Kona Electric are unknown, the automaker claims that its volume has increased by a whopping 753% year-over-year. This could be due to a low base in February 2022. Meanwhile, the all-new Hyundai Ioniq 6 is slated to hit the market in Spring 2023.
Sales of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 have reached 3,622 in the US so far this year, a 2% increase year-over-year. In 2022, the model’s total sales amounted to 22,982, accounting for approximately 3.2% of the total sales volume.
Hyundai plans to introduce more electric cars and increase sales of all-electric vehicles in the long run. However, the company may face temporary setbacks such as the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, which has removed the $7,500 federal tax credit for imported battery-electric vehicles.

To overcome this challenge, Hyundai intends to manufacture electric vehicles locally in the US to qualify for local EV incentives. However, official statistics do not include sales results of other all-electric or plug-in hybrid models such as the Kona Electric, Ioniq Electric, Ioniq Plug-In, Santa Fe PHEV, and Tucson PHEV, as they are grouped with conventional or non-rechargeable hybrids.
Finally, the hydrogen fuel cell model Hyundai Nexo sold 28 units in February 2023, an increase of 12% from the previous year. The automaker has delivered 44 units this year, a 17% decrease from the previous year.
