Chinese automaker Human Horizons has recently unveiled the latest addition to its electric car brand, HiPhi. The HiPhi Y, an electric SUV, is now available for purchase in China, with European orders set to open later this year. This new model aims to provide a more affordable option for electric vehicle enthusiasts.
The HiPhi Y comes in four different variants, each offering distinct drive versions and equipment levels. The two lower-priced variants feature a 247 kW electric motor paired with a 76.6 kWh battery, providing a range of 560 kilometers based on the Chinese CLTC cycle. These models are priced at 339,000 and 369,000 yuan (equivalent to 42,000 and 45,720 euros) respectively.
For those seeking an extended range, the HiPhi Y offers a version starting at 399,000 yuan (approximately 49,435 euros). It boasts a 247 kW rear electric motor and a larger 115 kWh battery, enabling a zero to 100 kph acceleration in 6.8 seconds—slightly faster than the variant with the smaller battery. Notably, this version achieves an impressive CLTC range of 810 kilometers.
The top-tier model, priced at 449,000 yuan (about 55,630 euros), features electric all-wheel drive with a 124 kW front engine and a 115 kWh battery. This four-wheel drive variant accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in just 4.7 seconds, offering an exhilarating driving experience. It achieves a commendable CLTC range of 765 kilometers.
Although no specific details regarding charging capacity have been provided, it has been disclosed that the batteries are sourced from CATL and FinDreams, BYD’s battery division. However, the specific cell supplier for the large or small battery is yet to be disclosed. Additionally, the 369,000 yuan and 449,000 yuan models are equipped with LiDAR sensors, while this feature is optional for the 339,000 and 399,000 yuan versions.
The HiPhi Y’s pricing in China pleasantly surprised potential buyers, as earlier predictions estimated a starting price of 400,000 yuan. This pricing adjustment was influenced by the revised Nio ES6, a strong competitor in the Chinese electric vehicle market. The Nio ES6 debuted at the end of May with prices beginning at 368,000 yuan and offering four free battery changes per month. However, the free battery change option was discontinued in June, resulting in a price drop to 338,000 yuan. Consequently, the HiPhi Y, measuring 4.94 meters in length, with a wheelbase of 2.95 meters, width of 1.96 meters, and height of 1.66 meters, is now only 1,000 yuan (approximately 124 euros) more expensive than its rival.
While the HiPhi Y is already showcased in Chinese showrooms, deliveries are scheduled to commence in Europe in 2024. Pricing details for the German market have yet to be confirmed. As for the higher-end models, the HiPhi X and HiPhi Z, they have been available for order in Germany since June, albeit at premium prices exceeding six figures.
