In a recent development reported on November 26, insiders familiar with Huawei’s plans have disclosed the company’s ambition to establish an open electrification platform in collaboration with key players in the automotive industry.
The decision to partner with Changan represents a significant move in Huawei’s overarching platform strategy within the smart car sector. Huawei aims to expand its engagement in this open platform initiative, welcoming the participation of additional automotive companies. The company envisions fostering new models of cooperation that prioritize openness and mutual benefit. Building on the success of the collaboration with Avita, the establishment of a new entity in partnership with Changan suggests that Changan’s sub-brands, including Avatr and Deepal, will embark on extensive collaboration with the freshly formed company.
As Huawei’s smart car division advances, the company plans to deepen collaboration with other brands, introducing the AITO series of models. Strategic partnerships with companies such as Seres and Chery will focus on areas like technological innovation, product definition, quality control, channel sales, and brand marketing, with the aim of accelerating progress in these domains.
On November 25, Changan further solidified its commitment to this collaboration by signing an “Investment Cooperation Memorandum” with Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. The memorandum outlines Huawei’s intent to establish a company dedicated to the research and development, design, production, sales, and service of automotive intelligent systems and component solutions. The strategic investment from Huawei reflects a comprehensive collaboration between the two entities.
The envisioned business scope of the target company encompasses automotive intelligent driving solutions, automotive intelligent cockpits, intelligent automotive digital platforms, intelligent car clouds, AR-HUD, and intelligent car lights. The focus is expected to center on related technologies, assets, and services within this ambit. Detailed business scope and implementation plans will be summarized in the final transaction documents.
