Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) has officially previewed the Stelato G9, the alliance’s first rugged luxury sport utility vehicle, ahead of its planned market launch in the third quarter of 2026.

The new model is jointly developed by Huawei and Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC Group) and represents Stelato’s entry into the growing premium off-road SUV segment.

Stelato enters the off-road SUV market

HIMA released an official teaser image of the Stelato G9 on its Weibo account, describing the vehicle as its first “tech-luxury rugged SUV.” The announcement follows the model’s appearance in the latest vehicle registration filings from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), paving the way for its market introduction.

Huawei executive Peng Lei, product director for the Stelato brand, confirmed that the vehicle is scheduled to launch in the third quarter of 2026.

“The Stelato G9 will bring new innovation and experiences across all-terrain and all-scenario driving,” Peng said.

The Stelato G9 will be offered in both battery-electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants. Customers will be able to choose between five-seat and six-seat configurations, while the overall design adopts a more rugged and adventure-oriented appearance than existing Stelato models.

Built on Huawei’s latest EV technology

According to Peng, both the BEV and EREV versions are based on an 800-volt electrical architecture and utilize Huawei’s new Giant Whale battery technology.

The EREV model features a 75-kWh battery pack, while the fully electric version uses a larger 120-kWh battery. Huawei says the battery capacities exceed those offered by many competing vehicles in the same segment.

Intelligent driving technology is expected to be one of the model’s key selling points. The Stelato G9 will feature Huawei Qiankun’s 896-channel dual-optical-path image-grade LiDAR system and support the company’s latest ADS 5.0 intelligent driving platform.

Huawei has increasingly focused on advanced driver-assistance systems and smart cockpit technologies as major differentiators across its HIMA vehicle portfolio.

Designed for adventure and utility

The Stelato G9 is positioned as a premium off-road capable SUV and offers a variety of optional equipment designed to enhance its versatility. Buyers can equip the vehicle with a roof rack, electrically deployable tow hook, electric side steps, multiple wheel designs, and an externally mounted spare wheel at the rear.

The SUV measures between 5,206 mm and 5,377 mm in length, depending on the configuration. It has a width of 2,050 mm, a height of 1,897 mm, and a wheelbase of 3,160 mm. The model is capable of reaching a top speed of 220 km/h.

The EREV version uses a 1.5-liter gasoline engine as a range extender, while the BEV variant features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system supplied by Huawei.

BAIC deepens commitment to Stelato

The regulatory filing also revealed a notable branding change. The manufacturer designation on the vehicle has shifted from “BAIC New Energy” to “BAIC Group,” while the producer name is now listed directly as Stelato.

According to Peng, the change highlights BAIC Group’s growing commitment to the brand.

“This reflects BAIC Group’s determination to go all in on Stelato,” he said.

Peng added that the results of the upgraded cooperation model between Huawei and BAIC are beginning to emerge as both companies accelerate investment in the brand.

Part of a broader strategic partnership

The Stelato G9 is one of the first major products to emerge from the expanded strategic partnership announced by Huawei and BAIC in September 2025.

Under the agreement, the two companies committed to investing 20 billion yuan (approximately $2.96 billion) over three years to advance technologies related to vehicle design, intelligent driving, smart cockpits, quality improvements and safety systems.

Stelato is one of five automotive brands operating within Huawei’s HIMA ecosystem, alongside Aito, Luxeed, Maextro and Shangjie. The brand currently offers the S9 sedan and S9T wagon.

With the introduction of the G9, Stelato is expanding beyond passenger cars and entering the premium off-road SUV segment, further broadening Huawei’s presence in China’s highly competitive new-energy vehicle market.
