Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and Mooving, an electric vehicle (EV) solutions provider, have announced a collaboration to develop a widespread battery-swapping network throughout India. The initiative will leverage Mooving’s technology and HPCL’s extensive retail presence, aiming to install 500 automated battery-swapping stations over the next 12 months.

The partnership grants Mooving access to over 22,000 HPCL retail outlets across the country, marking a significant step forward in enhancing India’s EV infrastructure. The initiative is expected to promote the adoption of electric mobility by introducing a Battery as a Service (BaaS) model, which could reduce EV acquisition costs and provide essential support to EV users across various regions.

In addition to this new battery-swapping network, HPCL has already installed more than 3,000 charging stations at its locations nationwide. The company also partnered with Gogoro last year to establish a battery-swapping network and signed an agreement in February to expand charging station installations.

Pritesh Talwar, President of Lectrix EV and Mooving, highlighted the importance of this collaboration, stating, “Our collaboration with HPCL is a monumental step towards transforming India’s EV infrastructure. By combining our automated technology with HPCL’s extensive network, we are setting a new benchmark for battery swapping services.” He further emphasized that this initiative would “help create one of the largest automated battery-swapping networks in India” and contribute to economic growth by generating new job opportunities and fostering innovation within the EV ecosystem.
