Honda said on Saturday it will reintroduce the Prelude sports coupe for the 2026 model year, reviving an iconic nameplate with a hybrid-electric powertrain and chassis elements from its high-performance Civic Type R. The carmaker said the new Prelude is designed to deliver a modern “grand touring” experience with an emphasis on driver engagement and day-to-day comfort.

The 2026 Prelude will be powered by a two-motor hybrid system pairing a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle gasoline engine with dual electric motors. Honda said the system produces 200 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque, offering both responsive acceleration and improved fuel efficiency. The model will also debut a new feature called Honda S+ Shift, which simulates the feel of a performance transmission using paddle shifters to deliver rev-matched downshifts and hold gears for a more engaging drive.

For the first time in a hybrid model, Honda has equipped the Prelude with performance hardware from the Civic Type R, including a dual-axis strut front suspension and Brembo four-piston aluminum front brake calipers, finished in what the company called “Prelude Blue.” A standard Adaptive Damper System has been tuned specifically for the coupe to balance sporty handling with ride comfort.

Drivers will be able to select from four modes – Comfort, GT, Sport, and Individual – that alter the steering, suspension damping, powertrain response and engine sound. Honda said the Prelude will also feature an enhanced version of its Agile Handling Assist system, which integrates braking and powertrain controls to improve stability and cornering confidence.

On the exterior, the new Prelude adopts a low, wide stance with aerodynamic styling. Design details include a “double-bubble” roof, flared fenders over 19-inch machine-finished wheels, and wing-shaped daytime running lights. Honda said the model will be available in five colors, including a new Winter Frost Pearl finish, with optional accessories such as spoilers and custom wheels.

The interior is focused on driver visibility and ergonomics, with leather-trimmed heated sport seats, a digital instrument cluster, and a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen with Google built-in. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be standard, along with a wireless charging pad and an eight-speaker Bose premium audio system.

Safety technology is included as standard, with the latest Honda Sensing driver-assist suite offering collision mitigation braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assistance. The coupe will also incorporate Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure and new-generation airbags.

Honda said the 2026 Prelude will arrive at U.S. dealerships in late fall of next year in a single, well-equipped trim level. Pricing has not yet been announced.
