Hesai Group China’s largest manufacturer of LiDAR sensors, said on Monday it has secured a new order worth more than $40 million from a U.S.-based robotaxi company, its second deal in the United States this month.
The company said it will act as the sole supplier of both long-range and short-range LiDAR products, with deliveries scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026. Hesai did not disclose the name of the U.S. partner.
Earlier this month, on Sept. 4, Hesai announced it had been chosen by Motional, the autonomous driving venture backed by Hyundai Motor, as its exclusive short-range LiDAR provider. Motional has used Hesai sensors on its fleet of all-electric Ioniq 5 robotaxis for two consecutive years, with each vehicle equipped with four units.
Founded in 2014, Hesai specializes in 3D LiDAR solutions and was listed on Nasdaq in February 2023. Its customer base includes Chinese automakers Li Auto, Zeekr, Leapmotor, and Xiaomi. The company reported a non-GAAP net income of 13.7 million yuan ($1.92 million) and positive operating cash flow in 2024, becoming the first publicly listed LiDAR maker globally to achieve annual profitability.
Hesai shipped 501,900 LiDAR units in 2024, a 126% year-on-year increase. It expects shipments in 2025 to reach between 1.2 million and 1.5 million units, representing annual growth of 139% to 200%.
