Harbinger has launched a new business division, Harbinger Industria, aimed at bringing its electric vehicle battery technology into the broader energy storage market, the California-based company said.

The first customer for the new unit is Airstream, which will integrate Harbinger’s battery system into its newly unveiled Trade Wind 27FB travel trailer. The model, designed for off-grid use, features an 18.5 kilowatt-hour battery system, the largest energy storage capacity offered in Airstream’s travel trailer lineup to date.

Harbinger said Industria will commercialise its proprietary high-voltage battery systems beyond the commercial vehicle sector, targeting applications such as recreational vehicles and other stationary energy storage use cases. The batteries are designed and manufactured at Harbinger’s California facility using lithium-ion cells supplied by Panasonic Energy.

“Harbinger is excited to be driving the reindustrialization of American supply chains, bringing our industry-leading battery technology to market with Airstream,” said John Harris, co-founder and chief executive of Harbinger. He added that adapting automotive-grade battery systems for recreational use could help set higher standards for off-grid performance.

The Trade Wind 27FB combines the 18.5 kWh battery with a 600-watt rooftop solar system, a 5,000-watt inverter and 50-amp electrical service, enabling extended off-grid operation. According to Airstream, the system can support dual air conditioners equipped with heat pumps, alongside other onboard electrical loads.

“The Trade Wind 27FB has the most capable off-grid electrical system we’ve ever offered in our travel trailer product line,” said Bob Wheeler, president and chief executive of Airstream. “By integrating Harbinger’s battery technology, our customers can stay off-grid longer with greater confidence.”

Harbinger said its power system includes liquid-based thermal management and intelligent battery controls that monitor operating conditions and manage energy use across battery, solar and shore power inputs. A dedicated display provides real-time information on system status and available energy.

The launch of Harbinger Industria marks a strategic expansion for the company, which said it plans to work with customers across multiple industries to supply U.S.-manufactured battery systems tailored to specific applications.

The Airstream Trade Wind 27FB will make its public debut at the Florida RV SuperShow in Tampa in January 2026. Final pricing and dealer availability are expected to be announced in spring 2026.
