Gridserve has opened a new Electric Super Hub at Moto Lymm Services in north-west England, adding 24 ultra-rapid charging bays to its growing network of electric vehicle charging sites across the UK.
Located at Junction 20 of the M6 and Junction 9 of the M56, the facility sits on a key transport corridor connecting Liverpool and Manchester. Gridserve said the new chargers are capable of delivering up to 400 kW of power, enabling compatible electric vehicles to add up to 100 miles (161 km) of driving range in less than 10 minutes.
The new installation complements six existing Gridserve fast chargers already operating at the service area. Those chargers will remain available for vehicles using CCS and CHAdeMO charging standards.
Largest Ultra-Rapid Charging Hub in the Region
According to Gridserve, the Moto Lymm site is now the largest ultra-rapid electric vehicle charging hub in north-west England.
The company noted that only Moto Rugby Services, located further south on the M6 motorway, offers a larger number of ultra-rapid charging bays on the UK’s motorway network, with 36 bays currently in operation.
The expansion comes as electric vehicle adoption continues to increase across the UK, prompting charging providers to add capacity at major transport routes and service stations.
Renewable Energy and Membership Benefits
Like other Electric Super Hubs in Gridserve’s network, the Moto Lymm site operates using renewable electricity and supports contactless payment through a plug-and-pay charging process.
Drivers can also access the company’s Gridserve Plus membership program, which provides discounted charging rates and additional benefits across the wider charging network.
“As EV adoption continues to accelerate, drivers need more than just fast chargers; they need charging infrastructure they can depend on,” said Rebecca Trebble, Chief Commercial Officer at Gridserve.
“That’s why we continue to invest heavily in large-scale Electric Super Hubs like Moto Lymm, delivering high numbers of ultra-rapid charging bays at strategically important locations across the UK’s motorway network.”
Trebble said the company remains focused on increasing both charging speed and reliability as demand for electric vehicle infrastructure grows.
“By deploying charging infrastructure at this scale, and continuing to focus on enhancing speed and reliability, we’re giving drivers the confidence that charging will be available whenever they need it. Moto Lymm is a fantastic new hub for people travelling in and around the North West and another example as to why Gridserve remains the UK’s most used EV charging network,” she added.
Moto Highlights Growing Charging Demand
Moto Hospitality, which operates motorway service areas across the UK, said the expansion reflects the increasing importance of charging infrastructure as electric vehicle registrations continue to rise.
“We are passionate about transforming the EV charging experience across the UK motorway network,” said Ken McMeikan, Chief Executive of Moto Hospitality.
“The expansion at Moto Lymm Services demonstrates the success of our partnership with Gridserve and our shared ambition to provide high-quality, ultra-rapid charging at modern, well-equipped service areas.”
The latest project forms part of ongoing efforts by Gridserve and its partners to expand charging availability along major transport routes and support the growing number of electric vehicles on British roads.
