Great Wall Motor Sets Sales Record with 23,755 NEVs Sold in May, Contributing 23.5% to Total Sales

Great Wall Motor’s new energy vehicle (NEV) sales experienced significant growth last month as the company intensifies its efforts to transition towards electrification. According to recently released data, Great Wall Motor achieved a record-breaking sale of 23,755 NEVs in May. This represents a notable increase of 104.13 percent compared to the previous year and a 59.83 percent rise from April’s sales of 14,863 units.

When considering both conventional fuel vehicles and NEVs, Great Wall Motor’s total sales in May amounted to 101,020 units. This signifies a year-on-year growth of 26.18 percent and an 8.49 percent increase from April’s sales figure of 93,107 units. Notably, NEVs accounted for 23.5 percent of Great Wall Motor’s total sales in May.

During the period from January to May, Great Wall Motor’s NEV sales reached 66,426 units, indicating a year-on-year growth of 30.48 percent. These NEV sales accounted for 16 percent of the company’s overall vehicle sales, which amounted to 414,095 units.

On May 25, Great Wall Motor lodged a complaint accusing two BYD hybrid models of failing to meet pollutant emissions standards.

Great Wall Motor’s electric vehicle-focused brand, Ora, witnessed the sale of 10,616 units in May, marking a 19.27 percent increase from April’s sales figure of 8,901 units.

Furthermore, the premium Wey brand experienced substantial growth in May, with sales of 5,770 units. This represents a significant year-on-year increase of 128.97 percent and a notable 142.95 percent rise from April’s sales.

Great Wall Motor’s Wey brand introduced the six-seat Lanshan DHT-PHEV on April 13, priced at RMB 273,800, as a competitor to Li Auto’s Li L8. Deliveries of the Lanshan model commenced on April 25. During its first complete sales month, the Lanshan DHT-PHEV achieved sales of 5,136 units. Great Wall Motor has reported an increase in production capacity to meet the growing number of orders for this model.

On May 25, Great Wall Motor’s Haval brand launched two hybrid SUVs, namely the Haval Xiaolong and Haval Xiaolong Max, with a starting price of RMB 139,800. These models achieved sales of 3,088 units in May.

Furthermore, on June 1, the Wey brand introduced the Mocca DHT-PHEV, a 5-seat SUV with a starting price of RMB 231,800,000.

Great Wall Motor achieved a record-breaking overseas sales figure of 25,131 units in May, indicating a 15.21 percent increase from April and a substantial year-on-year growth of 104.04 percent. Cumulatively, from January to May, Great Wall Motor achieved overseas sales of 98,920 units, representing a significant year-on-year growth of 100.36 percent.
