General Motors (GM) is making a big splash in the electric vehicle (EV) market with a slate of new models, including the upcoming GMC Sierra EV, which will be the brand’s second fully electric truck after the Hummer EV pickup. With an estimated range of 400 miles, the Sierra EV is positioned to compete with the likes of the Ford F-150 Lightning and the forthcoming electric Ram 1500 REV.
Although GM only sold two units of the flagship Hummer EV in the first quarter, the company has high hopes for its flexible Ultium platform, which can be used to build everything from compact EVs to super trucks like the Hummer. The platform will be the foundation for the Sierra EV, set to be released in 2024.
While the automaker has yet to release details of the mass-production version of the Sierra EV, GM’s design team recently teased a few sketches on Instagram, giving a glimpse of what we can expect from the electric pickup.

The GMC Sierra EV will come in several trims, including the Elevation, AT4, and the upcoming Denali. The first edition of the Denali trim will be priced at $107,000 (+DFC), with other trims expected to start at around $50,000.
The 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 will pack a punch, boasting 754 hp and 785 lb-ft of torque, with a maximum towing capacity of up to 9,500 pounds. It also features 800V DC fast charging, which can provide up to 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes.
Other features include a Multipro midgate, which expands the bed up to 10′ 10″, and four-wheel steer crabwalk abilities. First edition buyers will also receive a unique luxurious interior decor accent, a panoramic fixed glass roof, 24-inch wheels with 35-inch tires, a 16.8-inch diagonal center touch screen, and air ride suspension.
The Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 also comes with Power Station Pro, which can power essential home appliances for up to 21 days in an emergency.
The first edition of the Denali trim will be available by reservation only in early 2024, followed by the AT4 trim later that year and the Elevation in early 2025. GM is betting big on the Sierra EV and its other new EV models, aiming to prove that it is different from other traditional automakers and can succeed in the rapidly expanding electric vehicle market.
