General Motors (GM) has announced a nationwide recall of nearly 15,000 Cadillac Vistiq electric SUVs in the United States and temporarily suspended shipments of new vehicles after identifying a defect involving the third-row power seats.
According to a recall notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue could increase the risk of injury if a passenger becomes trapped during operation of the power-folding seat.
Nearly 15,000 Vehicles Affected
The recall covers 13,629 Cadillac Vistiq vehicles from the 2026 model year and 911 units from the 2027 model year, with GM estimating that all recalled vehicles contain the defect.
The NHTSA filing states:
“A person, especially a child, may be trapped by a rear powered seatback, increasing their risk of injury.”
It adds:
“When the power fold feature is activated, the third-row power seatback may fail to reverse when encountering a person.”
Issue Identified During Internal Evaluation
Supporting documents filed with the recall indicate that the issue was first reported on March 31, 2026, through GM’s internal Speak Up For Safety (SUFS) program.
According to the report, engineers observed that the third-row seat continued folding even after encountering a 33- to 40-pound test box, preventing the object from being removed until the seat was manually reversed.
GM said it is aware of six additional incidents or customer complaints that may be related to the condition.
The company said no injuries have been reported.
Dealers to Disable Seat Feature
GM said owners will begin receiving notification of the recall from August 3.
Until replacement parts become available, dealers will disable the third-row power-folding function on affected vehicles.
Once updated seat modules are installed, the seats are expected to automatically reverse direction when they encounter sufficient resistance during the folding process, reducing the risk of entrapment.
