GM Recalls 2024 Chevy Silverado EV for Seatbelt Defect

Credit: Chevrolet

GM is recalling certain 2024 Chevy Silverado EV models due to a defect that could cause the second-row seatbelt to tear in a crash. The recall affects 352 electric Chevy pickups, which were built between February 23, 2023, and November 14, 2023.

The issue was identified when a GM engineer noticed incorrect seatbelt bezels being sent to the Silverado assembly line. Upon investigation, GM found that the wrong part had been installed in some vehicles, potentially compromising safety.

GM’s Speak Up for Safety (SUFS) program flagged the problem on November 12, 2023. Subsequently, on February 1, 2024, GM’s SFADA issued a safety recall to address the issue. Dealers will replace the defective part free of charge.

Notification letters are expected to be sent out on March 25, 2024. Owners can contact Chevyā€™s customer service at 1-800-222-1020 with questions, referring to recall number N242430730. Additionally, owners can reach out to the NHTSA hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov, citing campaign number 24V-087, for more information.
