Luxury automaker Genesis has announced that its entire electric vehicle lineup will be sold at all Genesis dealerships. The company aims to achieve this goal well before it goes completely battery-electric by 2030. The statement was made during the launch of the brand’s first all-electric vehicle, the Genesis Electrified GV70.
Jarred Pellat, Senior Manager for PR and Communications of Genesis North America, stated that the expansion of Genesis’ EV sales is carefully planned to ensure product availability. The company is making sure that dealers are fully onboard and going through the EV certification process. Pellat confirmed that Genesis EVs will be available for purchase at all Genesis dealerships, but a specific date for this has not been confirmed.
Although this process will take time, Genesis has already made significant progress. Currently, the GV60 is available in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Utah, and Washington, while the Electrified GV80 is available in these states and Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Virginia.
The Electrified GV70 is built at Genesis’ Montgomery, Alabama factory and is the only Genesis all-electric vehicle produced in the US. Pellat confirmed that only the US will receive vehicles built at the Alabama factory, with Canada, Europe, and other markets receiving their Electrified GV70s imported from South Korea.
The Alabama factory, also known as the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA), has a unique production system with a single assembly line capable of producing several models, including the Hyundai Sonata, Elantra, Santa Cruz, Santa Fe, Tucson, and the Electrified GV70. The plant’s robots can differentiate between the vehicles as they move down the line and adjust their processes accordingly.
Production of the 2023 Electrified GV70 is already underway, with the vehicle set to arrive at dealerships in the aforementioned states soon. Buyers of all Genesis EVs will receive three years of 30-minute complimentary charging sessions at Electrify America DC fast chargers, starting from the day of purchase.
The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 will be available in two trims: Advanced and Prestige, priced at $65,850 and $72,650, respectively, excluding the $1,125 destination fee. Buyers are eligible for a $7,500 EV tax credit under the Inflation Reduction Act.
